The story is told through an unreliable narrator and sprawling frames that combine white beach culture with fairytale visions of romance. Ultimately it is a raw and honest look at the intersections of race and class dynamics with social hierarchy, the insidious internalization of white supremacy, and the harm caused by fighting for white-adjacent social positioning.
